Safety Training

School chaplains are considered essential personnel on campus and, therefore, must undergo safety training comprised of three certifications: Active Shooter, Threat Assessment, and Stop the Bleed.

Active Shooter

Aspiring chaplains need the Active Shooter certificate to qualify for certification. Educators and safety experts create this course to equip, prepare, and protect everyone in your school. The ALICE Active Shooter online course lasts about 1 hour.

For certification, chaplains must complete the online Threat Assessment, BTA Level1 eLearning course. This course is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge to identify, assess and respond to potential threats in your school. You will learn how to use the BTA (Behavioral Threat Assessment) model, a proven method for evaluating the risk of violence from individuals or groups. You will also learn how to apply the BTA model to various scenarios and situations and how to communicate effectively with stakeholders and authorities. Completing this course can enhance your personal and organizational safety and security. The Threat Assessment, BTA Level1 eLearning takes 4-6 hours to complete.

Threat Assessment

Stop The Bleed Certification is a course that teaches you how to stop life-threatening bleeding in an emergency. You will learn how to use your hands, dressings, and tourniquets to control bleeding and save lives.

The course is designed for anyone encountering a bleeding injury, such as chaplains, first responders, or health care professionals. School Chaplains are required to have this life-saving training.

Stop The Bleed courses are available at multiple locations. Most STOP THE BLEED courses last no more than 90 minutes. A formal presentation is followed by hands-on practice of applying direct pressure, packing a wound, and using a tourniquet to stop bleeding. Stop the Bleed certificate of completion issued in the last 12 months is necessary for chaplain certification.

Trained and prepared for every situation.
